Welcome to our Web small business Entrepreneurial site!
By small business folks, For small business folks
We’re in a recession. Who can doubt it? And if left up to the US govt, it’ll only get deeper. This is not to say that Big Business isn’t at fault as well. Small Business are doing their part, but Big Business are more interested in their bottom line than the common good.
They say that this is a “jobless recovery”. That’s an oxymoron. Without jobs there will BE no recovery! There won’t be any salaries to spread around, nor will there be any taxes paid to reduce the ever explosively mushrooming federal debt. Interest on the debt alone is pulling hundreds of billions that should be going to building the civil economy.
To top it off, US business has just spent the better part of two decades offshoring premium jobs to people who aren’t as high a quality, but who will work dirt cheap, without any pesky safety and other regulations that tie American workers up in knots. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, Big Business and Big Govt have colluded to bring in over 130,000 foreign workers a year to do the jobs that American’s used to do at wages that a person could live on.
small business creates far, far more jobs than big business ever will!
There is not and never has been a “shortage of skilled American” computer workers, engineers, nurses or any of the other industries that have been flooded with foreign people who, again, will work dirt cheap. That’s their only redeeming quality. But it looks great on the bottom line, doesn’t it?
Well, if you’re like me, you’re going to strike out on your own. I’m not going to join the herd for interviews anymore and give some pinhead HR person the right to tell me whether I fit to their lofty standards or not, no matter how good I am.
I’ve been a professional computer consultant in my own small business for over 25 years and one advantage that I’ve always seen in this trade is that as long as I have a good computer background behind me, I can go anywhere and do anything as long as I have my computer skills!
But let’s not pretend that you have to have a bushel of computer skills to succeed on the internet. Are you into TV production? Television production is coming into it’s own on the internet now. Ustream.com allows ANYONE to start their own TV show and air it 24 hrs a day, show repeat “Best of” shows when someone can’t physically be there. You don’t need a production studio any more. As long as you have a few computer skills and average intelligence, you can do it.
The same thing goes for Radio. If you’ve ever produced a radio show, live365.com will allow you to run your own internet radio station. I did in fact. For over 2 years, until I simply didn’t have the time for it anymore, I uploaded about 90 songs and simply set them to shuffle over and over. People loved it. I had thousands of people hit the preset button, like the buttons on your car radio. But I’m not a radio type so couldn’t monetize it and MY interest waned. But you can do it like this and throw in the occasional commercial or you can full out emcee your own station. Total Cost: $129/yr. AND THEY PAY ALL THE ROYALTIES for using the music!!
Small Business can save your future!
Folks, the internet is both the message and the medium! Youtube.com has tens and hundreds of millions of videos stored there and they’re only one site out of hundreds. Why? Because it’s EASY to make a video and upload it. Your small business NEEDS to get the word out and YouTube is a very effective way of doing just that! Camtasia studio is an EASY program to learn to use. It’ll record anything on your desktop and your voice so you can create training tutorials about your sphere of influence, then upload it to YouTube EASILY!
But, let’s not fool ourselves here. Around the world, we’re reducing our businesses into our desktops on the internet but many of the real world rules still apply. There are about a billion people out there now. Google has about 3.5 billion pages indexed in its search databases.
Like the real world, any dope can create a product. And hell, it doesn’t even have to be a GOOD product (though that certainly helps
). But also like the real world, the sales and marketing is the key to any successful product. Face it, your small business is NOT going to reach all 3 billion people in Google’s index, no more than you’re going to reach all 6 billion people on planet Earth. But you don’t have to. You have to pick a market segment and try to get a section of them to at least listen to your pitch about your small business product. It’s no different from the real world.
Over to the right, you’ll see some links to some of our other blogs about marketing on the internet to become a webprofiteer and socializer to learn how to use the new social media sites to drum up business.
If you’re waiting for big business to help you, rotsa ruck!! Small Business is the way to go these days. Let us help you!
